Continuous sodium hypochlorite preparation device

Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCl) is a strong oxidizing agent created by the electrolysis of saltwater. It is used as a replacement for chlorine gas to disinfect drinking water, cooling towers, swimming pools, water cooling systems, etc., with the function of limiting the growth of microorganisms.
Sodium Hypochlorite produced on-site from saltwater or seawater is an effective method to prevent the outbreak of various microorganisms, including algae and crustaceans.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

In the electrochemical cell, the high-conductivity saltwater maintains the current from the anode to the cathode. This current electrolyzes the salt solution, producing chlorine gas (Cl2) at the positive electrode (Atot). Chlorine then combines with sodium hydroxide to form sodium hypochlorite. This reaction can be represented as:

NaCl + H2O + Electrical Energy = NaOCl + H2
(Salt) + (Water) + Electrical Energy = (Sodium Hypochlorite) + (Hydrogen)

The electrolysis method for producing sodium hypochlorite yields 1kg of active chlorine from 4-5 kg of table salt and 6-8 kWh of electrical energy. The concentration of active chlorine in the product solution is approximately 0.8%.
